Myths and Dreams. 2

Regarding to the history of oneirology(the doctrine of dreams), it is no longer enough to talk about our dreams as if they are purely psychological or totally physological events, and only related to our evolutionary history as species. The dreaming brain is much more than an electrochemical system that processes information, it involves our personal history as individuals, too.

C.G. Jung said about dream theories:
'I have no theory of dreams. I don't know how dreams come about. On the other hand, I know that if we think about a dream long enough and thoroughly - if we carry it with us and twist and turn it around - we always get something out of it.'

Take for example the Aboriginal dream culture, an ancient tradition which places great value on dreams as a valuable source of knowledge from the ancestors. Aborigines see dream time as a sacred place, a hidden dimension of reality that can be reached through dreams. It has been quite different in our own culture, because it has neglected to teach us, and maybe denied for a long time, that through the dreams we get in touch with our deepest creative power. In our dreams, we are even able to receive messages from the dead that can be crucial to our health and general well-being.
By dreaming, we are able to travel to the future as well to the past, and meet guides in other dimensions of reality. When we dream, we are able to remember who we are, and what we can become. Our dreams are our own property, and we ultimately determine what they mean.
Jour Et Nuit. Day and Night. Whether we dream in the night or in the day, our inner dream landscape reminds us of the basic questions of the myths, such as eternal thoughts about life and death, creation and being, identity and duality, love and sexuality etc. We, who are human beings, can feel that we are separated from eachother by time and space, but we aren't actually, the real truth is that we are one. By the archetypes in our dreams and myths, we are able to connect on an unconscious and conscious collective level.

I'll end today's post with another quote by C. G. Jung:
'Dreams are what we have to start from.'
