A Remarkable World. Part 1

We, the human beings, inhabitants of this earth called Tellus, living our daily lives while our planet's rushing in Universe, are just a small dot in the history of evolution. Unfortunately, mankind have a tendency to forget this, and see ourselves as masters instead of guardians of the planet.
At the creation, whether we believe it happened because of a Big Bang or that a Creator was behind it, life began at a point in some form in the Universe.

Pangaea, was formed for about 300 million years ago, an astonishing timeframe that is difficult to encompass for a human brain. Pangaea, or the greek word Pangea-the whole world, is meaning the super continent which existed during Mesozoic era, before continental drift splitted it up in today's continents. The formation of Pangaea came from the earlier super continents Gondwana(today's South America, Africa, Antarctic, Madgascar, The Arabian Peninsula and India) and Laurussia( North America, Europe and Siberia, when they were pushed together.

Pangaea began to slide again during the Triassic(about 200 million years ago), and the two  main parts formed at first the second Gondwana and Laurasien. The cracking continued until the continents of today had been formed during the Cretaceous period.

Pangaea is said to have stretched from pole to pole as a huge C, and by that, with equally long parts south and north of the Equator. Some of the mountain ranges that were formed when Pangaea arose are still left, for instance the Appalachian in North America and the Ural mountain in Central Asia. Ural Mountains, which is rich on minerals, emerged in a collision between the Baltic and Siberian continental plate, and these two have since then been placed together.

Around Pangaea was an ocean called Panthalassa, the only sea that was as large as all our current oceans of today. The mantle under Pangaea was still very hot and was therefore pushed up against the surfacee of the earth, which made Africa to stay tens of meters below the other continents.

Pangaea wasn't the first super continent on our earth. The first continents were formed for about two billion years ago, and they have since then been pushed together and also separated in several rounds. For about 500-700 million years ago, all continents were gathered in the super continent of Pannotia, and for 750-1000 million years ago in Rodinia. The climate on this giant continent was warm and dry, because few clouds of rain reached its inner parts, when the distance to the coast in many places were very far away. The warmth and the lack of water effected of course the animals and the wildlife.

By this, I would like to say, it's quite a miracle, that we, you and I, are able to live today, on this earth called Tellus, rushing in an Universe of infinity. Next time I'll continue with some more of my thoughts about us, we, the dot in the history of evolution.
