Humor och symboler - Humour And Symbols

Humour in fiction would appear to have two primary sources, though they are intimately connected: situation(which entails character-a situation that is comic for one character wouldn´t necessarily be so for another)and style. Both depend crucially upon timing, that is to say, the order in which the words and the information they carry, are arranged. Humour is a subjective matter and is experienced differently by all. There is humour which appreciates by many who watch television, for instance Monthy Pyton and Mr Bean. In litterature is for instance Bridget Jones´s Diary very popular for the ironic at one´s own expence.

Symbols: Roughly speaking, anything that stands for something else is a symbol, but the process operates in many different ways. A cross may symbolize Christianity in one context, by association with the Crucifixion and a road intersection in another. C.S.Lewis and his books about Narnia are filled with symbols and a special symbol language is used. His books are very popular over the world because of the use of symbols. But how many are aware that the message is about Jesus Christ and the fight between the good and evil? The lion, Aslan is a symbol for Jesus and  how he returns to Narnia to win the battle. These books are not only popular for children, they are also very popular among grown ups because of the symbols and the mystery.

The poetic style known as Symbolism, which started in France in the late nineteenth century in the work of Baudelaire, verlaine and Mallarmé was characterized by a shimmering surface of suggested meanings without a denotative core. It is very important that the writer avoid to introduce the symbol all too obviously just for the sake of its symbolic meaning, it will tend to undermine the credibility of the narrative as human action.
