NÄR BÖRJAR EN ROMAN? Det är ganska svårt att besvara den frågan, men i huvudsak kan man säga, att skapandet av en roman börjar med nedskrivandet av de första orden. De flesta författare skissar upp huvuddragen först inne i sitt huvud. Många förbereder grunden i veckor eller månader, ger huvudpersonerna deras karaktärer och skissar fram miljöer, situationer mm., antingen i anteckningsblock eller på datorn. För läsaren börjar alltid romanen med öppningsmeningen och därefter nästföljande meningar... och så vidare.
För min del gick det till så här: Jag slutförde min diktsamling The Magic of Life och var nöjd med den. Efter det slog mig plötsligt tanken - det är dags att fullborda min dröm! Plötsligt kom från ingenstans första meningen till romanens början: The day she was born on was a Sunday. Not just a Sunday... It was sunny too.
WHEN DOES A NOVEL BEGIN? It´s rather difficult to answer that question, but one can say that the creation of a novel begins with the penning or typing of its first words. Most writers do some preliminary work, if it is only in their heads. Many prepare the ground carefully over weeks or months, making diagrams of the plots, compiling c.v.s for their characters, filling a notebook or computer with ideas, settings or situations etc. For the reader, the novel always begins with the opening sentence and then the next sentence and then after that... and so on.
For me it happened like this: I finished my collection of poems The Magic of Life and I was pleased with it. After that a thought struck my mind - it is time to fulfill my dream! Suddenly out of nowhere, the first sentence to my novel, hit my mind: The day she was born on was a Sunday. Not just a Sunday...It was sunny too.
